Sometimes, we come across a car video that is so unusual we have to share it with you. A car that leaps into a lake from a burning car? That was our story. A working “digital” clock made of real cars? covered that too. And don’t forget about all the bizarre contraptions from the Garage54team. We’ve never ever seen a car drop on a trampoline. Until now.
Many of you will be familiar with Mark Rober’s YouTube channel. This trampoline exhibit is just one example of the many science-related content it has. Although it’s not very scientific, dropping a car off a tower onto the trampoline isn’t. To get the car to bounce required a lot of scientific math to create a trampoline capable of such feats.
Rober and his friends created the trampoline that is considered to be the most popular. The basic designs were followed by complex mathematical equations. This made it difficult for most auto journalists to write college courses on engineering. The final product you see is the trampoline as it was created in a CAD program. It consists of a thick Kevlar carpet in the middle, and 144 garage door springs that can support 450 pounds each.
The trampoline plans were sent to Australia where they were assembled. Why Australia? It’s home to another YouTube channel, How Ridiculous. This YouTube channel loves dropping things from great heights. Rober was asked by the guys to design a trampoline capable of handling large items.

Amazingly, the trampoline suffered very little damage – this is a testimony to Rober’s design as well as the extensive planning that took over six months.
