Reuss ripped the nose off ZR1.
General Motors’ global product development head Mark Reuss caused a delay of half an hour at the start of the 2018 Detroit Grand Prix. The incident was remediated by the top-ranking executive.
Reuss was driving an Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 when he lost control over the 755-horsepower (563 kilowatts) coupe. Reuss was leaving Turn 2 on the Belle Isle track after he had driven over a small hill when his rear end began to move out. The car spun and the front ended collided with the wall. The car sustained severe damage, including the tearing of the front fascia as well as debris that was left on the circuit. Reuss and the passenger were not hurt.
Reuss was seen sitting in the car for several minutes immediately after the accident. Reuss was probably confused by what had just happened and embarrassed at the shame of having made such a public driving error. The Detroit Grand Prix is held within easy reach of GM’s Renaissance Center corporate headquarters. Many employees attend the race.
