McLaren F1 Vs Ferrari F40 Drag Race – Decades Gap In Engineering

It’s not a perfect race, but it’s F40.

Lovecars is hosted by Tiff Needell (former Top Gear host) who loves the Ferrari F40. Who isn’t? Since its creation in the 1980s, the rare sports car has been a symbol of American culture – a popularity that continues to this day.

The F40 has been raced before by the channel, but that was against another Prancing horse, the Ferrari488 Pista. The F40 will be up against the McLaren P1 this time, a legendary supercar that was only produced in a small number of units in the past decade.

These cars were made around 20 years apart. Needless to say, engineering advances have occurred during this period, particularly in the automotive industry. But how far have they come? Lovecars wanted Drag Race to highlight the differences between them. You can see the video attached.

McLaren F1 Vs Ferrari F40 Drag Race - Decades Gap In Engineering

The Ferrari F40’s twin-turbo V8 engine produces 478 horsepower (356 Kilowatts) as well as 425 pound-feet (576 Newton meters) of torque. It’s not much, but it is still impressive by modern standards. The F40 was first introduced in 1987.

However, the McLaren P1 is known for its uniqueness and huge power figures. It was first revealed in 2013. The P1’s twin-turbo V8 can produce up to 903 horsepower (674 kW) or 723 lb-ft (980Nm) when it is combined with an electric motor. You might think that the P1 is an automatic winner over the F40 because of its number.

Even though we know the results, it’s still F40 and P1 racing so it’s a win.
