Screen-haters should get off their screens.
BMW is currently working on the next-generation 5Series. Although we have seen prototypes of the next-generation BMW 5 Series from July, spy photographers were already able to capture them, this is the first time its interior has been photographed up close. It is also believed to be the BMW i5, the next 5 Series all-electric model.
You’ll be able to see the two screens that crown the dashboard. The screens for the digital instrument cluster as well as the infotainment system can be connected under one curved glass. This is similar to the current design of the Mercedes E-Class.
The chunky D-shaped steering wheels are revealed in close inspection. These buttons appear to be soft-touch instead of the physical ones found in the current model. We aren’t sure if this is something you would want in a 5er, but we will reserve judgement for now.
The gear shifter was reduced to a single switch in the test vehicle. This is similar to the BMW so it’s not surprising that this has happened.
The spotted prototype shows signs that BMW is protecting it with its top-selling model. We expect some modifications in the shape and size of these vertical kidneys, but they are not present here. The headlights are narrower than ever, which is a welcome departure from the two-tier design of the larger 7Serie and the i7 sedans.
As a 2024 model-year, the next-generation BMW 5 Series will make its debut in the second half next year. It will be available in three versions, including ICE, full EV and PHEV. A hotter BMW i5 M is also in development, rumored with three electric motors producing a total of 750 hp.
