The 2019 HabaNiro design will be the basis for an electrified crossover.
The second-generation Niro has been in our sights for almost a year. On Thursday, the camouflage finally comes off. The premiere of the electrified compact crossover will be held in South Korea at Seoul Mobility Show. Kia released four teaser photos. The redesigned model will be a continuation of the HabaNiro concept , as everyone knows.
It will be reminiscent of the New York Auto Show showcar, but it will have rear doors and eschew scissor doors. We can see that the LED daytime running lights are almost identical to the HabaNiro’s. This is in addition to the boomerang-shaped vertical taillights.
Side-by-side screens will be used to replicate recent Kia products. Separate controls for climate control will also be retained. We may be old-fashioned but it is more convenient than having to navigate through menus.
The cabin is strikingly similar to the /EV6 from what we can see, down to the steering wheel. The new Niro will ride on the same platform as the E-GMP-based hybrid crossover. Although details are not available at this time, we expect the second generation of the Niro to continue in hybrid, fully electric, and plug-in hybrid configurations.
According to reports, Kia will make the next Niro more efficient despite keeping the old hardware. The HabaNiro was shown with an EV setup that packs front and rear electric motors for all-wheel drive. However, we don’t expect the zero-emissions production model to have a rear-mounted E-motor.
After only a week’s time since the EV9 concept was revealed, the 2022 Niro will be unveiled. This preview of what will likely become Kia’s largest electric model will take place just a week later. The three-row SUV will be able to ride on an electric platform, just like all future EV-badged models. The Niro is an EV for those who are looking for an affordable EV, with hybrid or PHEV options.
