1947 Dodge Power Wagon Restomod Mixes Modern Power With Classic Looks

The engine now features a Cummins diesel with compound turbos.

This 1947 Dodge Power Wagon Restomod is the latest creation of Legacy Classic Trucks. If you’re willing to pay $400,000, it’s available for sale.

This truck has been redesigned to retain the original look, but it also features modern mechanicals. Under the hood, there’s a Cummins 4BT 3.9-liter four-cylinder diesel, and Legacy Classic Trucks tunes the mill by adding a compound-turbocharging setup and higher-flowing fuel injectors. This gives the engine 250 horsepower (187 Kilowatts) as well as 600 pound-feet (814 Newton meters) of torque.

The original engine used in the era of Power Wagon was , a 3.77-liter (223-cubic inches) L-Head Inline-six producing 94 horsepower (70 kW), and 185 lbft (251Nm).

Legacy Classic Trucks Power Wagon features a New Venture 4500 five speed manual gearbox. It runs through an Atlas transfer box with a low 100:1 ratio and then on to heavy 14-bolt wheels. The air lockers are refilled by an ARB compressor.

According to the builder, the truck can travel comfortably at 80 mph (129 km/h). Legacy Classic Trucks claims that there’s “more than enough torque” to tow and haul heavy industrial equipment. We are not sure who will pay $400,000 to buy this truck and use it as a job vehicle.

Much of the original truck’s style is preserved in the cabin. The new equipment can be operated by sealed marine rocker switches.

The Power Wagon was introduced by Dodge in 1946. It was a civilian version if one of its trucks that it supplied to the military during World War II. The US produced the Power Wagon until 1968 after a few tweaks.

Legacy Classic Trucks is a specialist in the restoration of vintage pickups and SUVs. It offers a 1981-1986 Jeep CJ-8 Sprambler and a 1955-1959 Chevy NAPCO pickup equipped with either a 5.3 liter Vortec V8 (or LS3).
