Alpine is moving to electric, but the old gasoline engine still has some life.
Alpine’s headquarters is living with the internal combustion engine on borrowed time. The Renault-owned French brand announced that it will switch to electric propulsion in the next decade. The A110 sports car, with its turbocharged 1.8-liter gasoline engine from Renault Megane RS, is being tamed to stop the Porsche Cayman.
Alpine is changing the nomenclature for trim levels. The base A110 Pure will now be called the A110 Pure, while the former legende will switch to the GT suffix. The A110 S, at the top of the range is still the same name, but it packs a punch with 300 horsepower and 340 Newton meters (251 pound-feet of torque). This model has an extra 12 ponies and 20 Nm (15 pounds-feet) than its predecessor.
It takes 4.2 seconds for the flagship model to reach 62 mph (100 km/h). With the limiter off, it will continue to accelerate until 171mph (275 km/h). Brembo brakes have 320mm discs on both axles. They are surrounded by orange calipers and black 18-inch wheels. These are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport4 tires, measuring 215/40R18 front and 245/40R18 rear.
The Alpine A110 S has a more rigid chassis and suspension, which allows for better handling. It also features a sports exhaust system. It weighs 1,102 to 1,140 kg depending on the equipment level.
The A110 GT is a lower-ranking model, but it has the same engine and performance as S. However, it packs more amenities to match its grand tourer nature. The A110 GT comes with adjustable Comfort seats in leather and a rear and front park assistant (with a camera). The vehicle’s chassis and suspension allow for a smoother ride. It also weighs in at 1,119 to 1,140 kilogram (2,467 to 2,513 pounds).
You can stick with the base model if you prefer. Its four-cylinder engine produces 252 HP and 320 Nm (235lb-ft), or 48 hp, 20 Nm (15lb-ft) more than the other two. The sprint will still take four and a quarter seconds. It weighs in at 1,102 to 1,140 kg (2,429 to 2,513 lbs). The trims are still equipped with the same grippy rubber and adjustable seats.
The 2022 Alpine A110 receives a new infotainment system with support for Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, regardless of the choice. It measures 7 inches and has a pair USB ports, as well as Bluetooth. The system will get an over-the air update that supports Wi-Fi connectivity later on.
The A110 GT will be available at home in France starting December 1. The A110 S will follow at EUR69,000.500 and the A110 S at EUR71,000.500. The entry-level Porsche Cayman starts at EUR59,692 in France, where the CaymanS retails for EUR72,862.
