Jeep Gladiator 4xe Plug-In Hybrid Not Coming Until 2024MY: Report

After Jeep updates the Wrangler in 2023, it will be available.

Jeep stated earlier in the year there would be an electrified Gladiator truck. Although Jeep did not provide any details about the plug-in hybrid’s launch, the company plans to offer an electrified version of its pickups as well. It is not known when it will be available. It might not arrive anytime soon, however. According to a new Mopar Insiders Report, the Gladiator4xe won’t be available until 2024.

According to the publication, which cited an unnamed source within Stellantis the electrified truck will arrive just after Jeep gives its Wrangler JL its midcycle refresh. This will be for the model year 2023. The redesigned Wrangler should be on display by next year. These design updates will result in a redesigned Gladiator, which will arrive in 2024. The Wrangler Unlimited will get a facelift that includes the hybrid powertrain for the Grand Cherokee.

The current 4xe powertrain combines two electric motors with a turbocharged four cylinder and the TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic gearbox. It delivers 375 horsepower (280kilowatts), and 470 pound feet (637 Newton-meters). The powertrain could be tweaked by Jeep to extract more power and efficiency. However, we’ll have to wait until the debut to find out if this happens. The Wrangler is not yet known what design changes it will get, but it does have the new Bronco to rival today.

Although Jeep initially denied it was working on an electrified Gladiator in June, that didn’t last long. It was revealed Jeep had teased the electric Gladiator in June. Eager-eyed enthusiasts picked out many details that indicated the model was an electrified Jeep truck. Although it seemed like such a model was imminent, the latest report shows that we may be waiting longer than a year before the hybrid truck debuts.
