The new Civic Si turns out to be no less powerful than the predecessor.
The main complaint from the automotive community about the 11th generation Honda Civic Si was its lack of power boost. The new Civic Si is a sporty version with many benefits. It seems the production has increased even though the official numbers do not show it.
The 2022 Civic Si’s peak power is 200 horsepower (149 kilowatts) while its peak torque is 192 pound-feet (261 Newton-meters), which are five more than the previous model. A new Hondata video shows that the turbocharged 1.5-liter engine produces 222.31 horsepower (163.5 kW) instead of 201.33 horsepower (148.07kW) as measured at the dyno. The 10th generation Civic Si may have lost some ponies over the years, but the difference is still about 10%.
The torque curve is flatter, which is always a good thing. The newer model’s torque peak is almost 23 lbs (31 Nm more) at 233.39 lb/ft (3316.43 Nm). It also reaches its torque peak at 500 rpm faster than the model it replaces. These numbers mean that the 2022 Civic Si should make driving more enjoyable.
Performance should be improved by the upgraded six-speed manual transmission, which is the only available transmission for warm sedans. It borrows rev-matching technology from the Type R. This gearbox offers 10 percent quicker gear changes and better shift feel. The single-mass flywheel of this engine is 26 percent lighter that the one used in the Civic Si. This helps to improve throttle response.
Honda will charge at least $27.300 for the 2022 Civic Si if you like what you see. You can choose to have the sedan fitted with optional summer tires, but there is only one engine and one transmission. Standard equipment includes the limited-slip differential as well as the sport-tuned suspension.
