Lego Technic’s Test Car Crossing Gaps is All About Inspire Engineering

Science at its best.

You think that building with LEGO is only for kids? We know that Lego is not limited to kids’ toys. Technic kits are intricate and can be incredibly complicated, but the true beauty of Lego is the combination of engineering and creativity.

This YouTube video, which is a brilliant example of Brick Experiment Channel‘s genius, will prove it. The channel has many clever videos. This gap-crossing challenge is just one of them. It is a simple Lego vehicle that can cross ever-increasing gap using a minimal assortment of bricks as well as more complicated Technic components, which have gears and motors that add functionality. There’s more to it than playing with Legos.

The basic car is on four wheels and tries to cross the small gap of two inches between tables. Each successful crossing will widen the gap, which requires new modifications to keep it moving at each stage. There are three basic solutions to this problem: make the car bigger, make it longer, add more drive wheels and so on.

As the gap gets larger, engineering and creativity merge to make the difference. The longer car will not bottom out if it has a stronger frame. If the frame is too long, the center of gravity can be moved to allow one side to hang above the gap.

It gets even more inspiring from there. You can add and remove wheels. As a portable bridge, moving beans can be used. The support structures can be made lighter without losing strength. This is real engineering at work. The Lego test car has a span of almost three feet. This is a collection interlocking brinks that have gears, motors and wheels.

You can certainly build beautiful little houses or spaceships. It’s all about creativity and imagination. Everyone can see.
