Is that GR Four you see on the side?
Toyota stop trying to be sneaky. This time, we don’t have to look too deep for clues about the GR corolla. However, some Photoshop tricks can help. We’ll get to it in a second.
This is the second teaser that we have seen about the highly anticipated hot hatchback. However, we still haven’t heard anything from Toyota. Although the GR Corolla may not be visible in this photo posted to Toyota’s Instagram, it is certainly not out of sight.
We took some liberties with Photoshop’s light settings, zooming in, and used that to our advantage. We were expecting things to stay shadowed since automakers love such media moves. Imagine our surprise when a prototype GR Corolla was revealed to us with amazing detail. Although we can’t see any design changes, the front fascia is a little more aggressive. We can also see GR FOUR at the side.
This stands for all-wheel drive, and should underpin GR Corolla. It will be connected to the same turbocharged 1.6 liter three-cylinder engine that powers the GR Yaris. This engine produces a remarkable 268 horsepower (200 kilowatts). It is possible that the GR Yaris will also have a six-speed manual transmission. It’s reasonable to expect a hotter Corolla with a manual transmission, considering that it already has one.
The previous GR Corolla teaser by Toyota outlined many of these details, but was lacking visuals. Either someone misunderstood the GR Corolla’s location in darkness or Toyota intended for us to see the details. This means that we won’t have to wait for almost a year to see the hot hatch revealed as previously reported.
