Fewer seats, more luxury.
The Genesis GV80 was the first SUV by the brand and debuted in 2020. The current model is the most popular and can accommodate seven people in three rows. However, US buyers will soon have a more accommodating choice. Genesis said earlier this week to Roadshow that the GV80 will be launched in the USA sometime next year. It will occupy the top rung of the lineup.
This is not the first posh GV80. Genesis unveiled a six seater for South Korea in August. It featured second-row captain’s seats. According to Roadshow the four-seat GV80 shares many features with the six. Customers can expect the same feature-rich centre console that splits the seats. It will have heated and cooled cupholders as well as a wireless charger, four-zone climate control and audio controls. A pair of infotainment screens in the rear seats of the six-seater GV80 could be added to the four-seat model.
The GV80 Prestige Signature will be the name Genesis will give the upscale SUV. It will be powered by a twin-turbocharged, 3.5-liter V6 with 375 horsepower (279 Kilowatts) & 391 pound-feet (391 Newton-meters). It is paired to an eight speed automatic transmission with all-wheel drive. Although Genesis did not provide a price for the publication, Roadshow thinks it could be more than $70,000
Although the GV80 Prestige Signature would be a worthy flagship, its dominance at the top may not last. According to a new rumor, the brand is creating a larger GV90 model which will be the flagship model. It’ll also be all-electric. The GV90-all-electric model will be placed above the GV80 and ride on the EGMP (Electric Global Modular Platform). It is expected to arrive in 2023. Although it could go on sale in 2024, not everyone is ready to buy electric cars, a four-seat GV80 would be a good choice for many customers.
