Subaru WRX Powered by a Toyota V12 Produces up to 1,000 Horsepower

This engine was donated by an unlikely Toyota donor.

Ever thought about fitting a V12 into the tiny engine bay of a Subaru WRX. Jonathan Proulx saw that as a dream and made it a reality with a crazy engine switch mission. The V12 mill was also sourced from an unlikely source.

In this instance, the donor vehicle is a Toyota Century. The stately sedan was once powered by a V12 engine, which was designed and built for it by Toyota. You can now find it in the gray Subaru WRX. We don’t know of any other Subaru-Toyota collaboration as cool as this.

It is a 5.0-liter 1GZFE V12. It produces 295 horsepower (220 Kilowatts) as well as 340 pound-feet (456 Newton-meters) of torque in its strongest configuration. Proulx didn’t find these numbers enough for him. He equipped his WRX to run two G30-770 turbos and new connecting rods. Proulx also installed new Bosch injectors, and a MaxxECU Pro computer for a final power output at 1,000 hp.

A seven-speed dual-clutch automated transmission borrowed from the BMW 3 Series is used to transmit that huge power output to the wheels.

The truth is that the V12 engine is losing its appeal. Ferrari is leading in keeping this exotic powerplant alive. We won’t likely see Subaru making a V12 engine for any of its fastest cars.

For those who want to drive a Subaru V12-powered Subaru, Proulx may inspire you to find a donor for an insane engine swap project. It’s possible. All you need is your willpower.
