It is modeled after the Type 51 racecar driven by Louis Chiron.
We see a Bugatti dealer as a first-world problem if we walk in and cannot order the Chiron in our specifications. This shouldn’t be a problem for customers with deep pockets, as the Molsheim-based marque has launched a bespoke division. It didn’t have one. Despite a variety of special editions and one-offs , it didn’t have one.
Sur Mesure is French for “tailored” and opens the door to even more customized W16 hypercars. The Chiron’s production is ending there are only 40 examples left of this quad-turbo beast. They can be purchased only in the Super Sport or Pur Sport specifications. This unique, retro-inspired machine is based upon the Type 51 race car that was driven to victory at The French Grand Prix in 1931 by Louis Chiron and Achille Varzi.
The Chiron Pur Sport from Sur Measure sports the 32-inch number. It has been completely hand painted. This is just one element of Bugatti’s high end customization program. The other elements include a hand-applied fading pattern “EB” and two new body colors derived largely from racing cars from 1920s and 1930s.
Inside, the racing theme continues with the multi-layered “EB” motif on the door cards. The sills read “Grand Prix” in red to match their stitching and piping. The integrated headrests have “32” logos in the same color. Meanwhile, the center console has an inlay in black anodized aluminum with hand-painted details.
Bugatti has not yet revealed the price of this car, but it is safe to assume that it was more expensive than a “base” Chiron Pur Sport which costs $3.7 million. The company promises one-on-one support through the customization process, “for those who want to go further and create a truly personal piece of automotive art.”
We mentioned the first-world problem at the beginning. Here’s another: The CPS returns only 8 MPG in the city because of its thirsty 8.0-liter engine producing a staggering 1,500 horsepower.
