Toyota, Suzuki, and Daihatsu Allowedly Working on Mid-Engined Sports Car

This wild rumor coming from Japan could hint at a Toyota MR2 revival.

Toyota is currently working on a mid-engine sports car – this is the most recent report that Best Car Web published. Japanese magazine labelled the wild rumor as an exclusive scoop. The project is also rumored to be a collaboration between Toyota and Suzuki.

Although information about the project is limited, the report states that the goal is for the mid-engine sports car to be launched by 2025.

We remind you at this point to remember to take the rumor seriously (pour the entire canister) because there is no concrete document or evidence to support the claim.

For a long time, Toyota and Suzuki have been involved in a partnership for joint development. The two companies have deepened their relationships by sharing models and technology. Many rebadged models have been released since then. The Suzuki Swace in Europe is a rebadged Toyota Corolla Wagon. In Asia, the Toyota Rumion is a rebadged Suzuki Ertiga MPV.

Toyota and Daihatsu, on the other hand have a history dating back to 1967, when the latter began working together with the former. In the late 1990s, Toyota purchased a controlling stake in Daihatsu and in 2016, Toyota acquired the remaining assets of Daihatsu to make it a wholly owned subsidiary of one the largest automotive companies in the globe.

The mid-engine sports car has the same features as the regular model except that it is built on a new platform. Your guesses are as good as ours at the moment.

We can’t help but wonder if this rumored mid engine sports car will be a successor to the Toyota nameplate. If we get more information, we’ll be able to tell you in the coming years.
