Toyota hopes to have an electric vehicle in every segment, even trucks.
This pickup is not one of the 15 upcoming electric cars that Toyota has shown off in its preview. Two great photos of the truck give a good idea of how the model looks.
It seems that the truck is about the same size as the Tacoma. Although the styling is similar, there are some differences. Except for the top and bottom slits, the grille is closed. These sections are embossed to evoke the shape and form of the grille mesh.
The new headlights are more blocky. Below the lamps are fake inlets.
A simple lower fascia is used. The design is enhanced by vents at the front of the flares.
Gloss black is used for the roofline and A-pillars. Images don’t show truck from the rear.
Toyota has not provided any details on the powertrain or platform of this vehicle. Rumours suggest that the company will move the next-gen Tacoma to the TGNAF platform. This platform also supports the Tundra and Land Cruiser. These underpinnings are capable of supporting electrification so the pickup could also use them.
The next-gen Tacoma currently is in testing. spy photos show it with heavy camouflage benchmarking to a Ford Ranger. According to rumours, the pickup will be powered by a turbocharged four cylinder engine. The automaker is also rumored to be planning to combine the Hilux and Tacoma to reduce costs by achieving greater economies of scale. For the 2023 model year, expect a debut in 2022.
Toyota stated that it will introduce 30 electric vehicles by 2030, and sell 3.5million EVs per year by 2030. According to Toyota’s plan, EVs will account for 100 percent of global vehicle sales by 2035. This is a bold plan for a brand that has been slow in adopting fully electric powertrains.
