However, the price tag is quite high.
Do you remember the Lancia Delta Futurista, which was revealed in 2018 as a modern version of the 1989 Delta Integrale. Manifattura Automobili Torino brought the legend back to life. They also created the Stratos. Three years ago, the Italian firm announced that it would build only 20 units of the revived Delta. We have good news for those who missed their chance to purchase one. Meet the Delta Safarista, ladies and gentlemen.
This new model is a more serious take on the tried and true formula, but it has the same bones. Although the exterior is heavily inspired by the Lancia Delta, which won the 1988 Rally Safari in 1988, the iconic Martini livery has been replaced with a more simple look with a two tone body finish.
Like the Futurista’s, the Safarista was built using a Lancia Delta Integrale, which was used as a donor car. It had its rear doors removed. The three-door hot hatch was given a rally look by new alloy wheels. (The front one featured special carbon fiber covers), modified bumpers and side mirrors that resemble the original rally car.
After seeing the exterior, the interior is exactly what you’d expect – a stripped-out dashboard, a roll cage and four-point belts that provide support for the body-hugging seatbacks. If you’re rallying, the hydraulic handbrake makes it easier to turn sideways.
We don’t know much about the powertrain. However, we believe it to be the same upgraded 330-horsepower unit as the Futurista. It will likely be matched with a reinforced sequential gearbox and a rebuilt differential. Manifattura Automobili Torino plans to build 10 Safaristas, each with a price tag starting at EUR570,000 (or about $644,000 depending on current exchange rates). Ouch!
