Renault is serious about getting the “Alpine” name back on track. Word has it that a new concept would be revealed at the Le Mans 24-hour endurance event on June 13. The production version will be available in 2016. It is expected to produce around 3,000 units per year. However, this number could increase to 5,000 if there is greater demand.
The Alpine project by Renault was originally conceived as a collaboration between Caterham and Renault, but after a few disputes, the two automakers decided to work independently. The Renault variant will be built in Dieppe, northern France. It will cost between EUR30,000 to EUR35,000. Renault’s variant will be assembled in Dieppe, northern France. The model is expected to be sold with the ” AS1″ moniker which means Alpine Sport 1. Bruno Ancelin, Renault’s executive vice president, has already stated his intention to launch other Alpine-branded models.
