It’s a sad day in the automotive industry.
A tornado destroyed the Bowling Green Kentucky factory that produces the Corvette. The automotive industry suffered huge losses as Chevrolet announced that they would have to scrap 100 C8 Corvettes due to the unusual storms that hit the southeast United States earlier this week. On December 10, 2021, six states were hit by destructive tornadoes. They will be remembered as some of the most deadly weather events in American history.
While the loss of these vehicles is very sad, it’s important to remember those who died. The mega-storm caused more than 70 deaths and caused billions of dollars worth of damage to property. Those who were affected will never forget its effects. Even multi-billion dollar companies like General Motors were unable to save their production facilities from the massive storm. GM confirmed that the storm severely damaged their Bowling Green-based production plant and the Corvette Museum.
High winds caused a fire on the factory roof. This could have been due to a ruptured fuel pipe, but this has not been confirmed. Every car left outside the factory is being assessed for damage and shipped to customers eagerly awaiting. Water entered the factory and caused the most damage. This was due to the fact that it affected mid-production cars with exposed electronics.
GM won’t take any chances, and will scrap any car that is damaged by this storm. This will result in a delay in production, which will have a huge ripple effect on those who are eagerly waiting for their new C8. The 2022 Corvette C8 will be even more exciting, as it will reduce production and enhance the story of this sought-after American supercar. We are thinking of all those affected by the storm and wish them a speedy and strong recovery.
