Porsche is looking great.
Porsche would like to win the Le Mans 24 Hour Endurance Race in 2023. Porsche claimed the Le Mans 24 Hour Endurance Race win for the better part of the 21st Century, but was forced to stop by VW’s Diesel Gate scandal. Porsche now has the opportunity to join the Hypercar class, the top-tier racing class at Le Mans. Porsche’s entry into this class will enable it to challenge for the win at Le Mans once more and to face the Toyota winners who have filled the power gap left by Porsche.
At Le Mans there are two classes in the Hypercar Tier of Competition. The LMH is made up of cars that are specifically designed to compete under the Le Mans Hypercar technical rules. These FIA-managed regulations allow for hybrid front axel systems and plenty of creativity.
The LMDh is next, in which Porsche is participating. The FIA rules state that LMDh participants can buy the chassis of their race car from approved suppliers such as Dallara Multimatic, Ligier or Oreca. Sponsor teams must supply critical components such as the engine, body and hybrid system. This will allow entrants to keep costs down while still developing aerotech and drivetrain technology.
Porsche says that they are working closely with Multimatic and their partner Penske to develop the LMDh prototype. “In January, intensive testing will be initiated to make sure we are ready for the 2023 competition debut.”
We are looking forward to the Porsche Returns to Le Mans 2023. These teaser images will be enough for now.
