While you’ve likely seen your fair share Autobahntop speeds runs, this one is the best. Radim Passer, a real estate mogul, is the star of this spectacular video. He managed to reach 402.5 km/h (250mph) in 2015 using his Veyron on an unrestricted section. In 2018, he took delivery of the successor to the W16 machine. He also returned to the Autobahn earlier in the year to break his own personal record.
After the vehicle was returned to Bugatti in Molsheim, France for an inspection to ensure it could break the 400 km/h mark, the 58 year-old businessman drove the hypercar to its full potential at the Autobahn in July. To reduce the risk of other cars attempting to stop the hypercar, the high-speed run was done at 4:50 in the morning. The smart move turned out to have been smart as the Autobahn was nearly empty, creating the perfect conditions for pushing the Chiron to the limit.
Without breaking any laws, he managed to increase the analog speedometer’s reading to 414 km/h (257.2 mph). The Chiron is much faster than the Super Sport 300+, which is 273 mph (440 km/h). A unrestricted prototype was able to reach 304.77mph (490.48km/h) at the Ehra-Lessien track of Volkswagen Group.
Bugatti has officially retired from the pursuit of top speed records. However, Andy Wallace, the company’s test driver, stated that the car was still moving at 304.77 mph. To reach a higher speed, perhaps crossing the 500km/h threshold (310.6 mph), it would have been more drag-intensive or required a longer road.
The Chiron, which is not electronically controlled at 237 mph (381 km/h), is worth mentioning.
Hennessey will be attempting to dethrone at least one Chiron SS 300+ with its Venom F5, SSC North America and the Tuatara as well as Koenigsegg with a Jesko Absolut.
