The RF is also painted a charcoal gray color.
Mazda Design will showcase the styling MX-5 Miat ‘s versatility at November’s SEMA Show, with a pair tuned examples in very different styles. The Speedster Evolution is about performance, while the MX-5 RF Kuro is focused on style.
The Speedster Evolution is the more prominent of the two and is a harder-core version of last years Speedster. The Mazda engineers managed to reduce the roadster’s weight by more than 100 pounds, compared to last year’s 2,078-pound vehicle. The sports car will be a great canyon carver, as it weighs in at just 2,000 pounds. Mazda has emphasized the minimalist look by painting the Miata White Ether with black accents. The MX-5 RF Kuro, which is not a stripped down to achieve maximum speed, is more fashion-forward. Kuro is Japanese for “charcoal”, and the concept paint color it has is dark gray with semi-matte metallic finishes. This result makes a great roadster for driving at night. Mazda has also included a set 17-inch Rays wheels in a matching shade. An adjustable suspension, which is part of the Global MX-5 Cup vehicles, is the only performance upgrade. It’s possible that a shade similar to the Kuro might be available in showrooms. However, you shouldn’t expect to see a windshield-less Miata unless it is something you really want.
Drivers who want to get more from their Miata can use the aftermarket. BBR, a UK-based company, offers a kit that increases the engine’s power to 214 horsepower (160 Kilowatts) . It also adds 183 pounds of torque (248 Newton-meters), which is a significant improvement over the stock 155 HP (116 kW) . Flyin’ Miata can install a General Motors LS3 6.2L V8 with a greater than adequate 525 horsepower (391 kilowatts) if you have $51,775 extra to purchase an MX-5. To handle the huge increase in power, the kit includes a Tremec six speed manual gearbox. This setup adds only 264 lbs (119kg) to acceleration, so it would likely be very fast.
