This Custom Mercedes G-Class Camper Seeks Off-Road Adventure

The RV loves the journey as much the destination.

We have seen many expedition vehicles, off-roaders that can conquer difficult terrain and still keep all of the comforts of home. Many of these vehicles are made from the Mercedes-Benz Unimog. Although the platform is rugged, it has been in production for more than 70 years. This platform is great for camping but not so exciting for off-roading.

Orangework, a German company, built this off-road motorhome but not on Unimog chassis. It was a little easier to manage. It’s a Mercedes Benz G-Class. However, the photos show that it doesn’t just have a camper shell. The Lenson 3c is the name of the vehicle. Under the yellow paint and camper shell, it’s a G 350. It has a wheelbase of 24 inches and portal axles with suspension tweaks that give it 18 inches of ground clearance. It has 18-inch beadlock tires and a central tire inflator system that allows it to adjust the pressure without leaving the house. It’s not only off-road-ready, but it’s also off-road fun.

A door in the interior separates the passengers in the front from those at the back. It’s certainly well-equipped for having a great time. The camper shell is made of a single piece, and can be made from either a fiberglass composite or full-on Carbon Fiber. The camper shell has a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with hot water shower and rear seating area that converts into a bed. The unit can hold 100 liters (or 26.4 gallons) water. There’s also a hose in the back for outdoor showering. However, we think it could be used to wash off the mud from your hiking boots before you climb inside.

Although it may look strangely like a school bus, this camper could be the most off-roadable we have ever seen. We say it a lot. But this one doesn’t just have big tires for off-roading. We give it two thumbs up because it emphasizes the journey more than the destination. It’s not clear how much it would cost to build, but it seems worth it from our point of view.
