The Challenger American Drag Racer’s chunky tires indicate that they are not a sleeper.
The Challenger, the current generation, has been around for over eight years. It shouldn’t surprise Dodge that they are preparing a new model. This model will arrive in 2018, and will ride on the Giorgio platform. Expect to trim 500 pounds (227 kg) The outgoing car is still alive and will be able to produce two new derivatives as its last chance.
Challenger GT will be the first, an all-wheel-drive version of the Mopar-ized concept. The 3.6-liter V6 will be hooked up to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It is expected to arrive by year’s end. This will be followed by the American Drag Racer. The ADR, unlike the GT, will feature a rear-wheel-drive layout that is tail-happy, and will be distinguished from the Challenger lineup by its wide body. Unfortunately, this prototype does not have it.
It does have a set of fat tires that can transfer the 707 horsepower of the supercharged, 6.2-liter V8 to the roads in a more efficient manner. The Challenger RWD could get wider tracks, and some mechanical modifications may be made. If 707 horsepower wasn’t enough, there are rumors that the Challenger ADR might get more power. However, it’s best to wait until the official release to see if the Hellcat engine will get stronger.
The prototype was seen in Auburn Hills, Michigan, near SRT’s facility. The production version will be ready for use as soon as next spring. It won’t arrive until 2018, when the all-new Challenger is due to arrive.
