2020 Ford Ranger FX2 Package Adds Off-Road Chops To 2WD Models

The main upgrades include an electronic locking rear differential and off-road-tuned suspension.

The Ranger is a new addition to Ford’s North American lineup. However, the current generation (codenamed “T6”) of the pickup truck has been around for many decades. After taking the U.S.-spec Ranger Lariat for a spin, Brandon Turkus saw it firsthand. He also mentioned that the truck is starting to feel its age despite having been added to the 2019MY lineup. The Blue Oval hopes to make this utilitarian vehicle look new by offering new packages.

Ford has launched an FX2 Package for the two wheel-drive version of its truck. This package is similar to the all-wheel drive Ranger FX4. The kit includes more than just a decal on the sides of your truck’s bed. It also includes important upgrades such as an electronic-locking differential and off-road-tuned suspension. The 17- and 18-inch wheels have off-road tires wrapped around them, while the underbody guard provides protection. The truck’s approach angle will be improved by the absence of an air dam.

Ford made minor changes inside the cabin. The instrument cluster now includes an off-road section, providing useful information for the driver. This will be very useful when driving on rough terrain, as it will allow the driver to see pitch, roll and yaw information in real time.

Ford is taking orders now for the 2WD Ranger equipped with the FX2 Package. It is asking $595 while the FX4 Package is $1,295. Deliveries to customers are expected towards the end of this year.

Although an off-road-oriented package might be nice, we still wait for the Ranger Raptor’s arrival in North America. We have spy shots from prototypes camouflaged in the U.S. that suggest it may arrive eventually, but nothing is confirmed at this time. We can only wait to see if the performance truck that has been sold in Australia and Europe will be made it to the United States of America. A V6 gasoline engine could replace four-cylinder diesel in the international Ranger Raptor.
