This level of performance is borderline supercar territory.

German automakers are known for being extremely cautious when it comes to disclosing details about an engine or car’s performance. The M5 Competition has a twin-turbo, 4.4-liter V8 that was officially rated to produce 617 horsepower. However, a Dyno test earlier in the year showed the car offered exactly the same power at the wheels. At a mountain-moving 606 pound-feet (82 Newton-meters), torque was almost 10% higher than what the specifications sheets stated.

The M8 Competition Coupe uses almost the same engine as the super sedan . The hottest M car is expected to have almost identical output numbers in a dyno. The M8 is likely to have more power than advertised and will offer better acceleration than the Bavarian brand’s 3.2 second quoted for the 0-62mph (0-100 km/h).

asked Martin Tomczyk, a German professional racing driver, to take the M8 Competition Coupe for a few acceleration tests. Our colleagues measured the car at 2.88 seconds. The speedy coupe took 9.93 seconds to complete the sprint from zero to 124 mph (200km/h). This is impressive considering that it doesn’t cost a lot and it’s also not expensive.

The M8 Competition Coupe is basically a modified version of a large, luxurious grand tourer. It weighs in at under two tons. The supercar BMW M would like could be made lighter by removing some of the luxurious amenities. However, it needs to convince the executives that it is worth the effort.
