Hennessey F5 Hits the Dyno To Become a Loud Flamethrower

It’s not surprising that the engine has been called “Fury” because of its angry soundtrack.

Hennessey began customer deliveries for the Venom F5 in November last year and is currently working on the remaining 23 cars. All of these have been long sold out. It has also put a stripped-down prototype onto a chassis dyno to test it. This is a great opportunity to hear the “Fury”, which screams at over 8,300 rpm. It contrasts with the silent EVs that were introduced this week at CES in Las Vegas.

The Venom F5 naked boasts a powerful 6.6-liter V8 engine with two turbochargers. It also has an impressive 8,500 rpm. It sounds amazing and we’re still waiting patiently to hear what the hypercar can do during its long-awaited top speed run to break the 300-mph barrier. We can hear the engine only while it is producing its full 1,817 horsepower at 8,00 rpm and 1,193 Newton-meters (1,617 Newton meters) of torque starting at 5,000 rpm.

The engine is loosely based upon GM’s LSV8. It was extensively redesigned with a dry sump, titanium intake valves and cast-iron block. Fuel injectors were also added. The engine’s management system was designed specifically for drag racing. This makes sense considering the V8’s sheer power. The Venom GT’s replacement makes a wonderful, raw sound as it transmits power to rear wheels via a single-clutch seven-speed semi-automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

Based in Texas, tuner-turned-automaker Hennessey had no problems in selling the production run despite the $2.1-million price tag for a hypercar with no airbags. The car will be registered in the United States with a show title and display title. This means that North American buyers can only drive it for 2,500 miles each year.

2022 is likely to be the year that we see a new record for road-legal production. It will be a battle between Venom F5 or Tuatara unless Koenigsegg is interested in a piece. We’ll have to wait to see who will reach the magic 500 km/h (30.6 mph).
