2022 Toyota Land Cruiser Sport GR Hits the Dyno with Twin-Turbo Diesel V6 Diesel

The dog then took to the streets to run a few 0-60 mph laps.

Toyota has said goodbye to V8 engines, both in gasoline and diesel, with the LC300 generation. The full-size SUV now comes only with the more efficient V6 engines, which both feature a pair turbochargers. The new Land Cruiser’s gasoline engine has been tested in a dyno. Now, the same YouTube channel allows us to see the real power of the oil-burner in action.

You’ve probably guessed that it’s a spicy GR Sport model. However, this trim level does not offer power upgrades over the lower models. The 2022 Land Cruiser diesel-powered is powered by a 3.3-liter twin-turbo engine that produces 305 horsepower (227 Kilowatts) as well as 516 pound-feet (706 Newton-meters) at its crank. How much diesel punch is lost to the drivetrain? Check out the video to find out.

According to the dyno results, the V6 diesel engine produced 275 horsepower and 473 lbft (641Nm) at the wheel. This seems about right given the 10% drivetrain loss rule. The 3.5-liter gasoline engine mentioned earlier is officially rated as 409 HP and 478 Lb-ft (650Nm) from the manufacturer. Last year’s Dyno test revealed that it produced 370 HP and 394 Lb-ft (534Nm).

Back to the diesel Land Cruiser, the Gazoo Racing-branded offroader took a seat at the dyno and then headed out onto the streets. The GPS-based Dragy performance measuring device recorded 7.26 seconds. It ran a few 0-60 mph runs. At 88.81 mph (143 km/h), the SUV was competent enough to complete the quarter mile in 15.37 seconds.

The four year wait list Toyota must address isn’t because people want to drive the Land Cruiser across the asphalt. Its versatility and off-road abilities make the SUV a popular choice. This is particularly true for the GR Sport, which has the only trim that comes with front and rear electronic differential locks and an upgraded adaptive variable suspension. It also features Toyota’s electronically controlled kinetic dynamics suspension stabilization system (E-KDSS).

The LC300 will not be available in the United States. Toyota will only sell the Lexus LX with an F Sport model featuring a Torsen limited-slip diff and rear Torsen suspension. There’s also a Offroad trim that is larger and has three differential locks.
