The custom Mercedes is a wooden paradise.
Are you tired of seeing interiors in campers and motorhomes that are all white or gray? Although we’ve seen some custom-built builds with wood interiors, this one is the most visible.
We can’t really smell this amazing RV’s interior. Few smells are more memorable and welcome than cedar. This camper from Ohio-based Advanced RV is full of it. The bespoke build, named Nelson, was made for a customer who plans to travel off-grid for at least five years. It sure looks serene and peaceful.
Off-grid requires four-wheel drive so an extended-length Mercedes Benz Sprinter 4×4 is the best starting point. Advanced-RV then set to work with Eastern Red Cedar wood from Amish communities to construct almost everything in the vehicle. It is a unique design because the bathroom extends to the length of the van and is located at its back. The toilet is separated from the shower, so the whole area can be sealed off from the rest.
The central area includes a sofa and a bed, which can also be converted to a bed. The front of the kitchen features a large stainless fridge, sink and microwave under a walnut countertop. The cockpit and kitchen have a jump seat that opens to a third, smaller bed.
A small garage is located at the very rear of the Sprinter. It can be accessed from the outside. It is lined with fabric and allows for the use of Velcro to secure items. However, an electric winch can be used to lift and store electric bikes. The customer requested that there be no plastic that could cause off-gassing. It is very similar to the layout of the van owner’s house. The heated tanks and heating system inside are also included for comfort.
Advanced-RV is a specialist in custom camper constructions, and this wood wonderland certainly qualifies. It is very cozy and must smell amazing with all the cedar in it.
