Ford Raptor Will Be Fought By A Toughened-Up Toyota Tundra: Report

It is reportedly based on SEMA’s Desert Chase Tundra concept.

Trucks that can haul things like eating miles of desert off-road are very popular and automakers are keen to capitalize on this trend. If a new report by The Drive proves accurate, the Ford F-150 Raptor paved the way for trucks such as the Ram 1500TRX. It seems that Toyota could also join the fray.

According to the report, Toyota is currently working on a more rugged Tundra that will be based on last year’s TRD desert chase Tundra. The truck was equipped with a long-travel suspension that builds on the all-new 2022 Tundra Pro. The truck was fitted with heavy 37-inch tires and lightweight 18-inch forged aluminium wheels. An aggressive widebody kit keeps it all contained. Toyota also included several visual enhancements like additional lighting and spare tires in the truck bed.

The Drive cites an “insider” tipter as the source for this behind-the scenes information. The Drive contacted Toyota to get a comment on the truck. However, the automaker informed the publication that they don’t discuss new products. We also reached out Toyota for comment, but we expect to get a different response. If we get back, we’ll update this story. Automakers don’t like to give away their plans.

The Desert Chase Tundra also featured the iForce Max twin-turbocharged, hybrid V6 from the company. It produces 437 horsepower (326 Kilowatts) as well as 583 pound-feet (790 Newton meters) of torque. The hybrid V6 will give Toyota a Raptor fighter. It produces 450 horsepower (335 kW) and 583 pound-feet (790 Newton-meters) from its EcoBoost V6. A new-generation Tundra is finally available. This makes it easy for Toyota to increase its offerings as it continues to sell trucks well.
