This Week’s Auction: First 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR Goes To Auction

This beast produces more than 900 horsepower.

While the Ford Mustang has become an iconic vehicle, it is also Shelby America which helped Ford establish its reputation as a high-performance car. The latest combination between the two will be available at the Motor1.com/tag/shelby/ event this Friday. The first Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR will roll through the union blooms on January 28th, and all proceeds from the hammer price sale will be donated to charities.

Shelby had planned for production to start this month even though the GT500KR was only introduced last month. Shelby America’s 60th Anniversary is being celebrated by the beastly machine, which will be making a huge comeback in 2022.

The hood houses a 5.2-liter V8 with a huge 3.8-liter twin-screw Whipple supercharger. They produce more than 600 horsepower (671 kilowatts), which makes it a powerful pony car. Shelby also added a cold-air intake, an upgraded exhaust system and a larger throttle body to improve performance.

Shelby gave the Mustang a complete visual overhaul, with many new body parts made in carbon fiber. The Mustang now has a carbon-fiber front splitter, Gurney flaps and a rear diffuser.

Shelby will only make a few GT500KR models in 2022. 225 are the exact number, and only 180 will be going to the US. This might be your only chance to secure one. The 2020 and 2021 GT500 owners can upgrade their Mustang to a KR. However, Shelby will only offer 60 upgrades. It is not known how many Shelby upgrades will be offered in the future.

The auction proceeds will be donated to JDRF, and the Carroll Shelby Foundation. The JDRF fights type 1 diabetes and the CSF raises funds to help children with life-threatening diseases. It also supports automotive education efforts. The 2022 GT500KR is priced at $127,895, but it could fetch much more at the auction. This will raise quite a lot of money for both charities.
