The transmission is nine-speed with a wet-clutch and features an upgraded suspension.
There’s a new contender in the world of ultra-high-performance SUVs. This is ultra high performance, as the Aston Martin DBX has 542 horsepower. We are not talking about the standard model – the DBX707 is available. If you want to know where that number came from, look under the hood.
This is where you will find the familiar 4.0-liter V8 engine. However, it has been modified to produce no less than 697 horsepower (707 MPH, hence the 707 designation), and 663 pound feet (900 Newton-meters), of torque. Aston Martin used a pair of new ball-bearing turbochargers and a new engine calibration in order to maximize the extra boost. The DBX707 gets more air, which means that the piping must be better. A completely new quad exit active exhaust system is installed on the DBX707. This allows for better flow and makes V8 noise when needed.
Having power is nothing if it’s not used. Aston Martin has done a lot of work to the DBX707 drivetrain. A new nine-speed, wet-clutch transmission with manual and automatic modes is available that allows for faster shifts. The rear e-diff has been upgraded to be stronger and offers a shorter final drive of 3:27 for faster acceleration. All-wheel drive is still an automatic system, sending power front and rear where it’s most needed. However, the calibration of e-diff assists in cornering.
The chassis is reinforced with additional reinforcement. Additionally, the air suspension has revised dampers to reduce body roll. This is in addition to updates to the Electronic Active Roll Control system (eARC), which further reduces DBX movements. The updated electronic steering system adds weight and carbon-ceramic disc brakes measure 16.5 in front and 15.4 in back. Six-piston calipers clamp them down when it’s time for the wheel to stop. These brakes are standard on 22-inch wheels. 23-inch wheels are optional.
Tobias Moers, CEO of Aston Martin, stated that the DBX707 was the only SUV capable of launching at high speeds. The SUV can reach 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds by using “Race Start” mode, which pushes the vehicle forward at 4,000 RPM. The DBX707 will reach 193 mph if you keep the throttle pinned. This is enough to beat all luxury SUVs, but it still has all the luxury touches. Standard equipment includes sport seats with dark chrome trim, while comfort seats with brighter or carbon fiber finishes can be ordered. The DBX707’s lower console features manual controls to control various drive and exhaust modes.
The SUV’s exterior features include a bold front fascia, large grille, new intakes, daytime running lights redesigned, and a mean front splittingter. The rear fascia has been upgraded to make room for quad exhaust finishers and a larger diffuser. The lip spoiler is visible high up. There’s a lot of dark chrome and satin trim outside to create a monochromatic effect. Aston Martin also adds soft-closed doors to remind you that the DBX707 remains a luxurious machine.
As you would expect, prestige and power at this level come with a price. The DBX707 starts at $232,000, and does not include destination fees. Aston Martin says production will begin in the first quarter 2022 with customer deliveries following in quarter two.
