Even dually trucks of one ton had wild body kits back then.
The late 1970s are often associated with a large pickup truck that has a dark exterior and brown stripes. Although this custom truck was built over a decade , we don’t blame anyone if they are difficult to identify its era or origin. You can purchase it now for $19,995 if you are interested.
This very custom pickup is available for sale at ClassicCars.com. However, it’s not some one-off widebody conversion that was built in someone’s backyard shed. Knudsen Automotive Design (now Rage Exotic Vehicles), created many kits throughout the 1980s. This includes the Tridon body kit. The Sierra had a wider backside due to its dual design. However, it’s hard not to notice the dramatic widebody appearance of the Testarossa-themed side ventilations that flow into the rear quarter panels. The width of the front fenders increased, as did the pointed nose that completely covered the flat faces shared by GMC or Chevrolet pickups.
This particular rig is listed as being in excellent overall condition with only 60,000 miles on the odometer. The paint is in poor condition and the fiberglass body kit has some imperfections. The underside is a completely different story. There has been a lot of mechanical maintenance in the last 15,000 miles. According to the listing, the interior’s tan color is flawless. We agree with this assessment based on the photos (more are available at the listing). The GM’s 454-cubic inch (7.4-liter), V8 is under the hood. It is connected to a 3-speed automatic transmission. This drives the rear dual wheels.
A 31-year-old GMC Sierra is certainly not cheap, especially considering that this truck is rear-wheel-drive only. The listing says that the Tridon conversion was $12,000 back then, and this truck has just 60,000 miles. It’s difficult to know if there will ever be another one like it.
