SRT may expand its lineup with the Barracuda in 2015. This Barracuda will replace the Dodge Challenger.
A few months ago there were some reports about a new Barracuda model designed to replace the Dodge Challenger. More details have emerged this week and it seems that this will happen in 2015 when SRT will get a second model in its lineup, after the 2013 Viper. This new model will probably ditch the LX platform seen on the Chrysler 300, Dodge Magnum and Charger because it’s too heavy for a pony car.
Chrysler will therefore develop a new platform for Barracuda. It will be nearly the same size and dimensions as the current Mustang. The Barracuda will have a shorter wheelbase than the Challenger and an overall length of eight inches. It will have a curb weight of 250-300 lbs less. The front suspension will likely be a strut system instead of the current control arms. The rear suspension will likely retain the multi-link arrangement, but it will have a new geometry.
The engine lineup will likely include the newly developed 2.4-liter inline-four force fed Tigershark and a direct-injected version the Pentastar V6 (3.6-liter). A direct-injection HEMIV8 with greater power and efficiency will likely be available.
