Jon Olsson Converts His G-Class into a 780-HP, Teak Covered Convertible

Don’t drive it in the rain.

The professional skierautomotive creation has been completed. Olsson took the heavily modified Mercedes Benz G500 4×42, nicknamed Lord Hans and cut the roof. He also lowered it, added marine-grade teak decking at the back. This result is a machine that has all the advantages of an off-roader but also ticks all the boxes of being a great cruiser.

The quintessential first world problem that led to the new topless Lord Hans is still a big one. Olsson couldn’t fit his G-Class in the garages of Monaco and Marabella (Spain). Even more, the rig was too large for Olsson’s garage on his Spanish estate. The G500 was able to park in these high-end spots by lowering its overall height and removing the windshield.

Although Olsson does not reveal the engine, he says that the G-Class receives a significant power boost. Instead of the 422-horsepower (310 watt) output from the biturbo-4.0-liter V8, this mill produces 780 horsepower (582 kW). The machine emits a powerful sound thanks to an Akrapovic exhaust. An iPhone app can also adjust the internal valve to make it even louder.

Olsson loves camouflage patterns and Lord Hans has two. The appearance on the driver’s side is dark with a mix of shades. On the opposite side, it transitions to lighter colors.

Lord Hans is the ideal warm-weather cruiser. The SUV’s off-road capabilities are further enhanced by a modified suspension. This attracts attention in Marabella which is part and parcel of the reason for creating such an extravagant rig. Olsson makes full use of the G Class’ utility by transporting palm trees to his home and stacking the body with boxes to transport between homes. Olsson can’t attach a roof to the G-Class, so it is likely that he will get wet if it rains.
