Skoda’s electric hatch could be unveiled in 2024.
Many people don’t know that the Skoda Octavia is based on the Volkswagen Golf. It’s no surprise that the Czech model is larger than Wolfsburg’s bestseller. Ever wonder why Skoda doesn’t offer a compact hatchback? This is our theory.
Volkswagen won’t be pleased to lose some ( many? ) of its customers from a company that is part of the same brand. This is called cannibalization within the automotive industry. The Germans know Skoda could take large chunks of the pie if they build their own Golf. The Octavia is therefore larger and geared towards a different customer segment.
Skoda also has the Scala hatchback which is only a few centimeters smaller than the Golf MK8. The Scala might seem like Skoda’s answer for the Golf. However, the Scala has more advanced technology and is more powerful than the former. We now get to the main point of the article.
This is a virtual rendering for Skoda’s compact electric vehicle. This is the Czech firm’s version of the Volkswagen ID.3 and features an Enyaq iV-inspired design. If preliminary reports are accurate, it will be Skoda’s compact EV hatch that can rival the ID. At least, to some extent.
What will distinguish the two cars? The ID.3 will continue to be the more expensive option, offering more options. Skoda’s compact electric vehicle will receive some of its “Simply Clever”, solutions to help it attract practical-minded customers.
This could be the winning formula. It is possible that Skoda will reveal its all-electric hatchback in 2024. However, this will only be known over time. We will likely learn more about this hatchback in the months and years ahead, so keep checking back.
