The NEV is tiny and has a range from 40 to 75 miles (64 km to 120 km).
A few steps away from the new-comers in the auto industry, Faraday Future, and LeEco was another small company that was trying to make a name itself at 2017. The quirky Zero electric car that Eli, a Beijing-based company, had on display was displayed.
It is being marketed by the company as the “ultimate two-seater mobility device for agile daily movements.” The Zero’s battery packs are tiny and provide power at a mere 4 kilowatt-hour. This gives it a range of 40 to 75 mph (64 km to 120 km) and a maximum speed of 23 mph (37 km per hour). The curb weight of the Zero is approximately 1,000 pounds (453 kg). Although it may sound small, the Renault Twizy is a much more powerful competitor with a range of only 62 miles (100km) and a top speed of 50 MPH (80 kmh).
Although it shares some similarities with the Twizy’s, the Zero is its own unique design. It is well-thought out and substantial. It gives off a more car-like vibe than the toyish Twizy. The exterior has a number of glass panels that give it an open-air feel. Although the interior is simple and small, it doesn’t feel terribly uncomfortable.
The Zero will be available in China later this year at a price starting at around $10,000. The Zero is completely road legal in Europe and features such as A/C, heat and Bluetooth. Marcus Li, the CEO and co-founder of the company, says that it can even be driven on a highway if you are so inclined.
The Zero will primarily be used as an “Neighborhood Electric Vehicle,” NEV. The Zero is not legal for U.S. buyers who want to purchase one. It’s only legal in each state.
