America’s most popular sedan has just gotten better
The Detroit Auto Show debut you have all been waiting for is here. Toyota claims that the new Camry model is the most aggressive and advanced the company has ever produced – and we believe it.
From top to bottom, the eighth-generation of America’s most-sold sedan has undergone a major overhaul. The Toyota New Global Architecture (or TNGA) is used to make the model more “athletic, fun to drive” than any other model. The wheelbase has been extended by two inches (50.8mm), increasing its total length to 191.3 inch (4,859.02 milimeters). Meanwhile, the lower roofline (25.4 millimeters) was dropped to 1.0 and 1.5 inches (38.1 milimeters). The vehicle’s total height is just 56.7 inches (1.440.18 mils), with the seating position being lower. Additionally, the cabin is more tailored for the driver. This added athleticism is matched by a variety of new and improved engines.
The top-of-the-range V6 is the 3.5-liter with D-4S Fuel Injection. A 2.5-liter engine is paired with an 8 speed automatic transmission. An available hybrid model pairs the same 2.5-liter engine with the new Toyota Hybrid System II (THS II), which also has a CVT.

Although performance numbers are still unknown, Toyota is confident that the Camry will be able to beat competitors like the Accord which averages 49 city and 47 highway mpg. If we are lucky, official details about horsepower and mpg will be available soon after the debut.
The Camry also features a new platform and new engines. It also has a range of safety features such as pre-collision warn with pedestrian detection, full speed range dynamic radar cruise control and lane departure alarm with steering assist. Buyers can add things such as a blind spot with rear cross traffic alert and intelligent clearance sonar for a few dollars more.
When the new Camry goes on sale, it will be available in four trims: LE, XLE SE, SE and SE. The optional “Sport” package is available for SE or XSE trims. The exterior will get a more refined look thanks to the “Sport” package. This includes add-ons such as 19-inch black alloy wheels and a subtle rear spoiler lip.
Toyota claims that the 2018 Camry is more distinctive than any other Camrys and should be instantly recognisable from 200 yards away. The debut of the sporty new sedan will take place at the Detroit Auto Show, before it goes on sale later in the summer.
