Purists, look away.
McLaren has stated for the third time that it will resist temptation to jump on the SUV bandwagon. Ferrari continues to develop the Purosangue. This is Maranello’s first high-riding Prancing Horse. According to , the model codenamed F175″ will arrive on the market in the early 2022. It will be followed by two more SUVs.
These will be known internally as F244 or F245 projects. They are rumored to use the same platform and design as the Purosangue. Ferrari already confirmed that its first SUV would be equipped with a hybrid powertrain. However, the next generation of SUVs will likely lose the combustion engine. CAR states that the platform can be equipped with up to four electric motors, generating a total output of 610 horsepower.
The details of the pair are not available at this time. However, it is expected that there will be a long wait until these two EVs hit the market. The F244 will be available sometime in 2024, while the F245 is set to arrive in 2026. There are many things that could happen in the future, but even Ferrari, a premium brand, is subject to stricter emission regulations. Electrification is definitely on the agenda. The SUV market is stronger than ever and the brand could reap the benefits of a large untapped market to complement its sports cars.
This report tries to give you the facts about the Purosangue. This range-topping model is expected to be equipped with a V12 rated at around 800 horsepower. A hybrid V8 with 700 horsepower and a 4.0-liter engine will also be available. The vehicle will be true four-seater, and it will have height-adjustable air suspension to give you more ground clearance when needed.
The report mentions that the Purosangue will be equipped with suicide rear doors. This is in keeping with the Mazda MX-30, which has also been electrified. It remains to be confirmed, however, as the vehicle was only spotted as a test mule with a modified Maserati Levante and regular rear doors.
The list of automakers that don’t have an SUV is getting shorter with Ferrari making the Purosangue. McLaren is not the only brand that ignores this popular body style. Bugatti and Koenigsegg are also being ignored. Pagani may make an SUV (and possibly a sedan) in 2025.
