It won’t arrive before 2022.
The next Hyundai Ioniq 5 model will be launched. This rendering by Motor.es shows how the four-door will look when it arrives.
This rendering gives the Ioniq 6 a more sleek look than the Ioniq 5’s angular styling. The trim that runs from the top to the headlights, past the fenders and ends at the D-pillar is the most striking.
It also has an arched hood with a small opening in the lower fascia. The huge cooling inlets that are required for a combustion engine don’t apply to this EV. Stylists have the freedom to experiment with new ways of shaping a vehicle’s appearance.
Hyundai’s Ioniq sub-brand was announced. The company stated the 6 featured styling inspired by Prophecy concept. (gallery below). Although there are some similarities between the production and show cars, the show car is much more sleek in styling. Particularly along the windows, the arched shape is more prominent.
Both the Ioniq 5/6 and 6 use Hyundai’s Electric-Global Modular Platform architecture. The specifications for the 5 include an electric-motor powertrain producing 308 horsepower (230kW) and a 58-kilowatt hour battery that provides a WLTP range ranging from 280 miles (450 km). The optional 73-kWh battery can be used to extend the range to 342 miles (550km). It’s possible that the 6 has the same powertrain specs as the 6. However, the car’s slippery design might make it more efficient and go further on a single charge.
The Ioniq 6 won’t be available until 2022, one year after the 5 is released. The Ioniq 7 EV sub-brand will gain a bigger crossover in 2023.
