It is clear that a silent vehicle of 1,000 horsepower has some military applications.
General Motors made the Hummer H1 a popular vehicle brand before its 2009 bankruptcy. It’s possible that the new GMC Hummer might be able to produce a variant for armed forces.
“GM announced the launch of a Hummer battery electric truck in 2021. The full-sized truck has 400 miles range and 1,000 foot-pounds torque [ sic], making it a highly-capable vehicle. This could be a great platform for an electric vehicle that can be used in military contexts,” GM Defense President David Albritton told GM Authority. Albritton clarified that such a project was not currently in development.
The new Hummer is not part of its own brand but will be a GMC’s first electric vehicle. Its muscular and boxy styling is evident from glimpses. By removing the panels from the roof , occupants can enjoy open air motoring.
The powertrain can support up to three motors and the Hummer can also use them. The 800-volt battery pack can charge at speeds of up to 350 kilowatts, although there is not yet any information. This will reduce the time it takes for the battery’s charge to recharge.
Interior features include a digital instrument cluster measuring 12 inches and an infotainment screen of 15 inches. They are close together, but have a narrow strip of space between them.
The GMC Hummer will be available for purchase in the latter part of 2021. Automakers often unveil new products months before they put them on sale. So, keep an eye out for more details next year.
Recently, the $214.3million contract was awarded to GM Defense division for the construction of the Infantry Squad Vehicle. The all-terrain vehicle is built using 90% commercial off-the shelf parts and a Chevy Colorado as its starting point. The powertrain is a 2.8-liter turbodiesel motor with 186 horsepower (139 Kilowatts) & 369 pound-feet (369 Newton-meters). It runs through a six speed automatic transmission.
