Is this the American Ford sedan’s return?
Ford launched the all new Mondeo in China a little over a month ago. Mid-size sedan buyers in America are disappointed to learn that the fifth-generation model is not being sold outside of China. Ford made it clear that the car will not be sold in Europe according to Motor1.com Germany.
The new Mondeo made an unexpected appearance in Michigan a few weeks prior to its debut. We said at the time that this car wouldn’t be coming to showrooms as Ford has almost abandoned the sedan market here in the US. The sedan was spotted again by Kyle Swensen who took photos of it in a parking lot.
We are grateful for Kyle’s submission. The photos may give us some clues about the chances of the car being offered here. The model is the same as the one we saw in January. The trunk lid even sports the Chinese badge, as in the previous set of photos. The sedan does however have manufacturer plates.
Is this a sign that the Mondeo will be coming to the US? Not necessarily. This wouldn’t be the first car that has American plates. It is likely that it is currently being evaluated. It is not known what type of testing the Mondeo has been through, or what its purpose is on American soil. Don’t be too optimistic about this model joining the North American lineup.
Changan Ford has not yet released all details about the redesigned Mondeo. We do know that the new Mondeo is slightly longer than the previous model, by 2.48 inches (63mm) and 0.9 inch (23mm), respectively. The car’s badges indicate that the Ecoboost 2.0-liter engine option is available. It produces 245 horsepower (180 megawatts). The new Mondeo rides on C2, the same platform that supports models like the Escape, Bronco Sports, and Maverick.
