Chevy’s commercial was created by David Chase, Show creator.
This year’s Super Bowl featured ads from Toyota and Kia as well as many other brands outside of the automotive industry. Some commercials are more successful than others. One Chevy commercial was one of those. It showcased the new 2024 Silverado EVO by recreating “The Sopranos’ title sequence. This commercial scored well with Ad Age and earned five stars from the industry publication.
This ad is a modernization shot-for-shot of the title sequence. It originally featured Tony Soprano driving his Chevy Suburban from Manhattan, New Jersey to New York. Although the ad retains the same gritty shots of the original, there are several changes that show it’s time to bring in a new generation. Silverado EV takes over the Suburban and Tony’s daughter Meadow (played by Jaime Lynn Sigler in the commercial) replaces Tony at the wheel.
Chevy’s vice president of marketing Steve Majoros said that the spot was about a “nontraditional approach to an electric truck” “The Silverado Electric Vehicle redefines our most-sold nameplate. The spot also imagines what the next generation’the Sopranos’ could look like.”
Sigler shows off the EV’s four-wheel steering and exits the truck to hug her brother A.J. Robert Iler reprises his role. The Sopranos TV series ran from 1999 through 2007, but it was recently given the prequel treatment by a full-length movie. This movie, which aired in theaters last year, brings the gritty crime drama to an entirely new audience.
It is not accidental that the commercial matches the original sequence. Chevy, its agency Commonwealth // McCann, were able to collaborate with David Chase, show’s creator, director, and Phil Abraham (director of photography for the original title sequence), in creating the new ad. Well done.
