Only 30 examples of each type will be made.
The 250 series was one of the most popular Ferrari product line in the 1950s, 1960s. Between 1952 and 1964, 250 road cars were built. Some of these vehicles sold at record prices at auctions over the years. It is difficult to find a 250 GT SWB for sale these days. But there is a solution. Although it doesn’t come directly from Ferrari, it is absolutely amazing.
RML, located in Northampton, the United Kingdom, is “one the most respected high-performance automotive engineering firms in the world”. The Short wheelbase, which is basically a modernized version the 250 GT SWB, is one of their latest projects. It’s actually more than that. The vehicle has almost no similarities to the rare Ferrari, aside from its original platform.
Although the design is influenced by the Ferrari 250, it has modern touches that make it stand out. You can see the integrated projector lenses in the headlights and the wider tires at the front and back. The chrome exhaust pipes at back, the chrome side mirrors and the multi-spoke, vintage-style alloys are all very cool.
RML has created the Short Wheelbase with incredible attention to detail. The two-part clamshell shell body was assembled within a tolerance of 2.5 mm. 99 percent of its dimensions were met. This stunning pilot car’s look was achieved by layers of special carbon primer, regular primer, and a silver primer. RML has yet to decide what name it will give the sky blue color.
The 5.5-liter V12 engine under the hood delivers 479 horsepower (352 Kilowatts) at 7,500 rpm and 419 pounds-feet (568 Newton meters) of torque at 5,500 rpm. The engine can accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour (96 km/h) in 4.1 seconds. The top speed is 180 mph (290 km/h). A six-speed manual gearbox mashes the V12 to deliver power to the rear wheels via a limited slip differential and a six speed manual gearbox.
RML will only assemble 30 Short Wheelbases. Each one takes approximately six months to complete from A-Z. The base price for the Short Wheelbase is PS1.35million plus taxes. This is approximately $1.84 million at current exchange rates.
