Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Price Increase for 2022

The entry-level model starts at $77.155 and includes the $2,600 tax on gas guzzlers.

Ford revealed its 760-horsepower (567 kilowatts) Shelby GT500 for the 2020 model year. Its starting price was just over $70,000. It was priced at $70,300, but this did not include the $2,600 fuel guzzler tax or $1,095 destination fee. The price of the Shelby was $73,995, with the exception of an increase in the destination charge, and it has not changed. Until now.

The starting price for the 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is $74,555. This is a $4,255 increase year-over-year, which isn’t insignificant. This increase was confirmed by a Ford spokesperson to Motor1.com. However, it is the first increase in base price since the new generation went on sale in 2019.

The price of a 2022 Shelby GT500 rises to $77.155 after adding the gas guzzler tax. However, it doesn’t include the $1,195 destination fee. The total price of a 2022 Shelby GT500 is $78,350 after adding all mandatory fees.

Although it’s quite a jump, we have heard many stories about insane dealer markups on the Shelby muscle car. In late 2019, we reported on a dealer asking for $100,000 more than MSRP. The reports continued to come in. We learned that another dealer was asking for more than $200,000 to purchase a new Shelby in August 2020. Although the markups are lower, they still exist. Although a bump of $4,255 is not small, it won’t stop buyers from this niche performance segment.

The GT500 will not see any significant changes in 2022. The Carbon Fiber Handling Package has been discontinued. However, buyers can still get the Heritage Edition to pay homage the 1967 GT500. Code Orange joins the 2022 exterior color scheme. If 760 horsepower is not enough, Shelby American is relaunching the GT500KR with 600 hp (671kW). Only 225 units will be produced for 2022. Current 2020 and 2021 GT500 owners can get 60 KR upgrades.
