Kia Soul Recalled For Steering Loss in 342k Cars

All cars that were repaired in accordance with the 2015 recall are also affected.

Kia has recalled a significant number of its popular soul compact sport-ute due to steering issues. The problem is specifically with the steering pinion connector, which could cause the pinion gear to separate from the steering assembly. Parts separating is a bad thing in general, but it can be especially dangerous when it comes to steering. Drivers could lose control of their steering wheel, which could lead to a crash.

Certain Souls made for 2014, 2015 and 2016 model years are affected by the recall. The recall dates back to July 21, 2013, through September 30, 2015. Kia will either replace or inspect the affected plug and fix it. A clunking sound coming from the steering wheel when it turns could indicate a problem. Automaker will begin to contact affected owners starting November 16. However, individuals who are concerned can call Kia customer support at 800-333-4542 and refer to recall SC155. This may all sound familiar. In 2015, Kia issued a recall regarding the same problem with the Soul. The initial recall covered all 2014-2016 model year vehicles. It was then followed by a recall in the United Kingdom for the exact same problem. The previous fix didn’t work, so vehicles that were repaired in the previous recall are now subject to this recall.

The recall notice from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration states that vehicles should be inspected for any damage. This problem can be found on both EV and standard models. This issue is not known if there have been any injuries or accidents. In total, 342,381 souls have been affected.
