Ruf builds the CTR3 using 911 parts, but the coupe is 11 inches longer to allow for the engine to be moved to a mid-mounted position.
RM Sotheby’s is going to auction this unique Ruf Clubsport in Monaco on May 12th. The firm’s estimates suggest that the rare supercar will go for between $965,000 and $1.1 million. This car was displayed at Ruf’s booth at 2018 Geneva Motor Show.
Although Porsche is said to be considering bringing a mid engined 911 on the road in the near future, Ruf’s attempt at the idea is the CTR3. Multimatic, the manufacturer of the latest Ford GT, created the supercar’s platform. The Ruf measures 11 inches (27.9 cm) longer than a standard 911. This allows for more room to fit the 3.8-liter biturbo six in front of the rear axle. The mill produces 766 horsepower (571 megawatts), and the output is routed exclusively to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox. Ruf also offers a 6-speed manual. This powerful engine can propel the coupe to a top speed of 236 mph (380 km/h).
Porsche-inspired design is still evident in the CTR3, particularly the nose, which draws heavily from the 911’s 997-generation. This one is available in Oak Green. The roof has a prominent snorkel which routes air to the engine. The heat is likely to be emitted through the vents located behind the doors of this coupe. The tail has a muscular appearance thanks to its low rear deck and prominent front fenders. There’s also a large wing back there that emphasizes the sporty aesthetic.
The CTR3’s door opens to reveal tartan fabric in its center. You won’t find plaid material in a supercar, unless you’re looking at a vintage 300SL.RM Sotheby’s states that Ruf produced fewer than 30 CTRs, and only seven were in Clubsport spec. The fourth-generation CTR was introduced by the German company at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Although it looks similar to a 1987 911, the body and monocoque are entirely carbon fiber. Only the rear and front crash structures are made of steel. The new model has a rear-engine layout and the biturbo biturbo flat six, a biturbo 3.6 liter biturbo, produces 700 hp (522kW) and 649lb-ft (880Nm). RM Sotheby’s Monaco auction catalog is a good place to start if you are looking for a Ruf. The sale includes the CTR3 Clubsport and a 1991 Evo, 1995 Cabriolet and 2012 RCT 35.
