Drivers don’t need to wait for the engine to start before they can break in.

The 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will enter production in the summer. The new owners can’t take the 5.5-liter dual overhead-cam V8 from the dealer without pushing it to 8,600 rpm. They shouldn’t, if they want to prolong the engine’s life. As a break-in period, Chevy suggests not exceeding 6,600 rpm in the first 500 miles (805 km) of the engine’s life.

John Elegant, the Mid Engine Corvette Forum found this fascinating detail. This information is important to ensure that owners remember the break-in period. The redline on the vehicle’s tachometer is 6,600 rpm. Although there is nothing to stop someone from revving the engine faster, this tweaking of the tach shows how serious the company discourages it.

Motor1.com reached Chevy to confirm that this was part the Z06’s initial break-in period. This is true. It’s similar to what we do on Stingray so it’s not really novel,” an automaker spokesperson said.

Chevy recommends that owners allow their car to travel 1,500 miles (2.414 km) before they take it on the track. Elegant mentions that the car was driven to a deep dive seminar in order to break in the differential, bearings and gears.

The Z06’s LT6 v8 produces 670 horsepower (523 kilowatts), at 8,400 rpm, and 460 pound feet (623 Newton-meters), at 6,300 rpm. Chevy claims that the acceleration to 60 mph (96 km/h) takes just 2.6 seconds. An eight-speed dual-clutch transmission is the only available gearbox.

The Z07 Performance Package is for those who want to get the best performance from the Z06. This package includes the FE7 suspension and additional Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 calibrations. Carbon-fiber wheels can be reduced by 41 pounds (18.6 kg) in unsprung weight. They are wrapped with Michelin Sport Cup R ZP tires.

The Z06’s official pricing information is still not available. According to rumors, Chevy will begin accepting orders in March and begin production in May. According to one report is the starting price at $87,000.
