Italdesign will unveil a new DeLorean design in August

It will be completely electric.

Italdesign surprised us earlier this month by releasing an teaser video hinting to a revived DeLorean. Although not much information was available at the time, it is now clear that the icon will be officially unveiled during the Pebble beach Concours d’Elegance on August 21. Hooray!

Although there are no visual previews, the Italian design company confirmed that the vehicle would be fully electric. It will also feature gullwing doors as shown in the teaser video, which was released February 14. It will also have a unique Italdesign styling appeal.

“With DeLorean we’re creating a car that represents all the Italdesign services on an international scale. Italdesign Business Development Manager Andrea Porta comments on the styling. Troy Beetz, DeLorean’s CMO, says that “We are excited about the next evolution in the DeLorean Brand will be represented through our storied partnership With Italdesign.”

It is worth noting that Italdesign published the first teaser images for the reborn sports car in January 2021. The lines of the new DeLorean appear to be more fluid than those of the original car. The new DeLorean’s door panels and the area surrounding the fenders aren’t as angular looking as the original.

Italdesign’s latest announcement suggests that the car we will see in August may be a prototype. The firm stated that styling is the first step in the renewed collaboration, but did not go into detail about the technology base. We expect to find out more about the car’s debut so keep checking back. You can also sign up to receive updates on the project via DeLorean’s official website.

Italdesign Giugiaro designed the original DeLorean. Later, a very similar design language with angular elements was used for the Lotus Esprit and Maserati Bora as well as Merak and, to a lesser degree, the first-gen Volkswagen Scirocco.
