Stellantis CEO described it as “shocking”
14. This is how many brands Stellantis owns under its large corporate umbrella. They will all eliminate the combustion engine by end of this decade. The American automotive conglomerate, Ford Motor Company, announced this week that EVs would account for 50% of its total sales by 2030. Although the US electric rollout will be slower than elsewhere, Dare Forward 2030 predicts that more than 25 BEVs will arrive in the US within the next eight years.
The world’s first muscle car without an ICE is one of the most intriguing electric models. The concept Dodge will be the first to go, and it will arrive later in the year than the actual vehicle. Although Stellantis has been quiet about the performance machine, CEO Carlos Tavares had some interesting words to say this week.
The 63-year old executive from Lisbon, Portugal said that the Dodge electric muscle car would produce a “sound you cannot imagine” before presenting the long-term strategy plan. It is “something that is surprising” even though it has a good old gasoline engine.
“After creating the sound, they think about how to make it louder and stronger in response to the way you use the car.”
While Dodge is not the first automaker that creates artificial sounds to make its EVs more thrilling, it’s worth noting that the engine of the muscle car will be accompanied by a dramatic soundtrack. Since a teaser video showed the vehicle performing a four-wheel burnout, it is likely that the yet-to be named EV will have a pair motors.
Tavares stated that the zero-emission muscle car would deliver the same “performance and unique attitude as Dodge is famous for” during the live presentation. Although that’s not a lot, we need to point out that the EV’s arrival will not necessarily mean the end of the gasoline-powered models. Last year, Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis stated that in an interview with Muscle cars and Trucks:
“The new car will be available in 2024. The current cars will not die in 2024, but we didn’t say so. While there might be some overlap, you won’t have years upon years of both the old and new cars at once.”
Dodge will soon introduce a plug in hybrid model, possibly named Hornet, this year. It is widely believed that it will look like a rebadged Alfa Romeo Tonale. It combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with an electrical motor to produce 272 horsepower and all-wheel drive.
